Biography
Brianna Lacey is a first-year medical student at the Icahn School of Medicine at Mount Sinai. She earned dual Bachelor of Science and Bachelor of Arts degrees in biology and history (cultural and intellectual) from the University of Maryland Honors College. Prior to medical school, she completed wet lab research investigating Group A Streptococcus pathogenesis, clinical research in dermatology, and two years as an outpatient orthopedic scribe and medical assistant working alongside a a variety of subspecialty surgeons.
Research interests
Drawing from her lifelong background as a competitive dancer through her collegiate years, her current research interests involve a combination of pediatric sports medicine, orthopedic biomechanics, and clinical health equity. She focuses on how racial, demographic, and structural anatomical variations influence lower extremity and spinal biomechanics, specifically examining ankle range of motion, posterior impingement, and joint hypermobility in elite dancers and pediatric athletes. By evaluating how social determinants of health and anatomical differences impact injury patterns and return-to-sport outcomes, she aims to help refine surgical and conservative procedures to better accommodate diverse patient populations.
